January 30, 2026

We closed the first round of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League in emphatic fashion, stunning KCCA FC 1–0 at the MTN Omondi Stadium to end the hosts’ unbeaten home run and leapfrog them into second place on the league table.

It was another night defined by belief, discipline, and a familiar hero, as Kigozi once again delivered when it mattered most in a fixture that underlined our desired status among the league’s top performers.

Team News and Starting XI

Coach Abdallah handed the captain’s armband to Poloto Julius as The Printers lined up against his former employers. The starting XI featured Omedwa, Mujuzi, Amayo, Mubiru, Odongo, Ssenyonjo, Bugembe, Kyeyune, Poloto, Munguchi and Kigozi.

First Half – Late Breakthrough After Sustained Pressure

KCCA started on the front foot, as expected, pushing numbers forward and enjoying early spells of possession backed by a lively home crowd. The hosts tried to stretch UPPC FC through quick ball circulation and overlapping runs, but found little joy against a well-drilled backline marshalled with composure and maturity. However, KCCA increased attacking intent left spaces behind, and UPPC FC began to exploit them with greater purpose

UPPC FC were content to stay compact, soak up pressure, and look for opportunities on the break. As the half progressed, the Printers grew in confidence, stringing together passes and testing KCCA’s defensive shape with quick transitions.

The Breakthrough

Two minutes of added time were indicated at the end of the 45 — and it was in that moment that the game turned.

From the left side of ourhalf, the intelligent and eagle-eyed Isa Mubiru spotted Kigozi bursting into space. With perfect weight and precision, Mubiru delivered a long-range diagonal pass that beat the retreating defender and found Kigozi in stride. The forward brought the ball under control with a single touch before unleashing a fierce strike into the far corner.

The finish marked Kigozi’s eighth goal in ten league games, confirming his place as the UPL’s outright top scorer, and sent the travelling Printers faithful into absolute frenzy as UPPC FC headed into the break with a priceless lead.

Second Half – Kigozi Makes the Difference

KCCA threw everything forward in the closing stages, piling on pressure and forcing The Printers into deep defensive work. The backline stood firm, throwing bodies on the line, winning aerial duels, and making crucial interceptions to protect the slender lead.

Calm game management, tactical fouls when needed, and strong goalkeeping ensured we saw out the contest to secure a famous away victory.
