April 20th, Entebbe Works play Ground: FUFA Big League Match Day 21 served up a tense and gritty top-of-the-table clash as Gaddafi FC (3rd) hosted Buhimba United Saints (2nd) in a fixture that promised fireworks but ultimately ended goalless.
A heavy and prolonged downpour earlier in the day caused delays to match day preparations and contributed to a slippery playing surface. Additionally, the Easter weekend meant both teams had to contend with a much smaller crowd. Despite these setbacks, the skies cleared in time for kickoff, and the game proceeded on a soggy but playable pitch.
Starting XI for Gaddafi FC:
Ssekeba (GK), Kasirye, Mbula, Kawawa, Lubowa, Kakaire, Amayo, Enzama, Savio, Male, Namwanja.
The opening 15 minutes saw Buhimba dominate possession in Gaddafi’s half, pressing forward with intent. However, a timely tactical shift by Gaddafi’s head coach helped restore balance and shifted momentum towards the hosts. It was a match characterized by physicality and tactical discipline, with both sets of players relentlessly shutting down attacking threats.
Clear-cut chances were rare, but the best opportunity of the first half fell to Gaddafi’s Mbula, who misfired from close range. Buhimba delivered a series of quality crosses into the Gaddafi area but lacked the finishing presence to convert.
In the second half, Gaddafi maintained their grip on the game, probing patiently but failing to break down a well-organized Saints defense. The tide began to turn after Kawawa was replaced by Sseninde in the 75th minute. Buhimba responded with changes of their own, gaining more control and peppering the Gaddafi box with a flurry of dangerous deliveries in search of a late winner.
Despite the visitors’ late surge, Gaddafi held firm, although their substitutes couldn’t provide the spark needed to tilt the tie. The match concluded in a hard-fought 0-0 draw.
Standings Implications:
The result sees Buhimba United Saints hold onto 2nd place with 38 points, while Gaddafi remain 3rd with 36 points. Elsewhere in the league, Paidha also moved to 36 points after their weekend result, joining Gaddafi in a tight chase for promotion. The table-toppers managed only a draw as well, preserving their three-point cushion over Gaddafi.
Next Fixture:
Gaddafi FC will travel to Bukedea to face MYDA FC on April 27th. With just seven games remaining, the race to the top intensifies, and every point is now crucial.
