Sunday 12th Jan 2025, Akii Bua Stadium, Lira: Gaddafi FC fell to a narrow 1-2 defeat against Blacks Power FC in Lira, a match defined by tactical battles, resilience, and unfortunate setbacks.
The game kicked off under intense heat, with the hosts taking an early lead due to a mistimed offside trap by Gaddafi’s backline. Despite the early blow, Gaddafi showed commendable composure, gradually regaining their footing. The breakthrough came in the 23rd minute when a swift counterattack saw Kawawa set up Kakaire. His first-time shot from outside the box rifled into the top right corner, leaving the goalkeeper stranded and bringing the scores level.
Defensive stalwart Savio Kabugo was booked shortly after for a foul and had to be replaced by Farouk Matovu, as the hosts began targeting his flank. Both teams battled fiercely until halftime, with neither able to add to the scoreline.
The second half saw tactical adjustments from the visitors, introducing Davis Kasirye, Gerrard Lule, and Yasir Mugume in two substitution windows. However, misfortune struck when Kasirye pulled a hamstring just 15 minutes after coming on. As he lay on the pitch awaiting treatment, Blacks Power capitalized with a swift counterattack, regaining their lead.
The substitution rules added to Gaddafi’s woes. With Bithum Nsumbiano ready to replace the injured Kasirye, officials blocked the move as the team had already used all three permitted substitution intervals. This left Gaddafi with 10 men from the 74th minute onward, further complicating their pursuit for an equalizer.
Despite valiant efforts, Gaddafi could not breach the Blacks Power defense again. The result sees the hosts leapfrog Gaddafi into first position in the league, with both teams level on points and Blacks Power holding the advantage in head-to-head encounters.
Next up for Gaddafi FC is a Stanbic Uganda Cup clash against Pajule Lions FC on Tuesday 14th January, 2025. The team will look to bounce back and put this league setback behind them.
Final Score:
Blacks Power 2-1 Gaddafi FC
