Gaddafi FC bounced back in style after their setback against Onduparaka, earning a 2-0 victory over Buhimba United Saints on Sunday. The win, achieved in front of a packed crowd at the Kigaaya Church of Uganda Playground, lifted Gaddafi FC to 5th place in the table with 11 points, reigniting their push for promotion.
The match, which kicked off at 4 PM, saw Joel Abaliwano, Lubowa, and Brian Kyeyune handed their first starts of the season. Both teams displayed high intensity in an end-to-end first half, each eager to secure the opening goal. The breakthrough came in the 31st minute when Lubowa rose to meet a precise cross from Brian Kyeyune, heading it expertly into the net to give Gaddafi a crucial lead.
As the second half approached, Coach Allan Kabonge made a bold triple substitution, introducing Batiibwe Okello, Davis Kasirye, and Simon Namwanja to bring fresh energy into the game. The hosts ramped up their attack, but Gaddafi’s defense, anchored by veteran and ex-Uganda Cranes international Savio Kabugo, held firm to frustrate Buhimba’s attempts at an equalizer.
On the counter, Gaddafi continued to threaten. One promising attack saw Mbula brought down just outside the Saints’ penalty area after a surging run from the left flank. Davis Kasirye stepped up for the free kick and delivered a spectacular strike into the top right corner, sealing the victory and sparking jubilation among the visiting fans and bench.
The win moves Gaddafi FC to within four points of table leaders Booma FC, who have played two more matches. With confidence restored, Gaddafi will now turn their focus to hosting MYDA FC in Entebbe on Sunday, 24th November 2024, in a crucial fixture for their promotion aspirations.
