Gaddafi FC Stumbles in Goalless Draw Against Kataka FC

Entebbe Works Ground, 19th January 2025: Gaddafi FC were held to a goalless draw by Kataka FC in a frustrating home encounter that marked the end of the Big League’s first-round fixtures.

With key players missing; target man Kasirye sidelined with injury, experienced defender Savio Kabugo out due to illness, and Kazibwe still recovering from a knee issue, Gaddafi FC faced a tough challenge. The team, eager to reclaim the top spot lost to Blacks Power last weekend, relied on Bithum Nsumbiano to lead the attack, as he had in the Stanbic Uganda Cup midweek.

The first half saw limited clear-cut chances, though Gaddafi FC pushed forward in search of a breakthrough. Joel Male was forced off just before halftime due to injury and was replaced by Mbula, prompting a temporary reshuffle with Bithum shifting to right-back before being substituted for Mugume later in the game.

The second half provided the best opportunity for Gaddafi FC when Kataka’s goalkeeper spilled a shot, leaving Kakaire with an open goal. However, his miscue sent the ball over the bar, much to the dismay of the home crowd. Further chances fell to Lubowa, Kawawa, Mbula, and Mugume, but none were converted as Kataka’s defense held firm until the final whistle.

The draw moves Gaddafi FC one point clear of second-placed Blacks Power, who play on Monday, January 20th. The result also brings the first round of fixtures to a close, with the schedule for the second round pending adjustments due to the CHAN tournament’s rescheduling to August 2025.

Key Moments:

  • First Half: Limited chances; Joel Male subbed off injured.
  • Second Half: Kakaire missed Gaddafi FC’s best chance; Kataka defended resolutely.

Gaddafi FC now turns its focus to preparing for the league’s second round, aiming to reclaim the top spot and secure promotion.
