Entebbe, 24th November 2024: Gaddafi FC secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against MYDA FC on Sunday at the Works Sports Ground, reclaiming a spot in the promotion zone. The match, played under clear sunny skies, was an intense battle that showcased resilience and determination from the home side.
Coach Kabonge handed Derrick Kiggundu his first start, while Samuel Kawaawa returned to the starting XI and made an immediate impact with an assist. However, it was the visitors who struck first, heading home from a cross in the 8th minute to take an early lead. Gaddafi FC responded swiftly, as Yasir equalized just four minutes later with a composed finish following Kawaawa’s perfectly weighted through ball.
The tightly contested affair saw both teams push for a decisive goal, but it was Jonathan Mbula who delivered. Capitalizing on a dropping ball from goalkeeper Muhammad Ssekeba, unleashed a brilliant volley to put Gaddafi FC ahead before halftime.
The second half saw tactical adjustments from the home side, with Kasirye replacing Kawaawa on the right wing and Gerald Lule making way for Batiibwe Okello. MYDA FC intensified their efforts, creating several chances, but Gaddafi’s defense stood firm, holding on until the final whistle.
The victory propels Gaddafi FC to 3rd place on the table, just two points behind league leaders Blacks Power FC. The team now shifts focus to their December 1st clash against Ntugasaze FC in Mityana, where they aim to continue their ambition for top spot and a coveted promotion to the Uganda Premier League (UPL).
